BENEFITS Hibiscus, also known as rosemallow, is a flowering plant belonging to the same family as cocoa and cotton.
These dried hibiscus flowers make a lovely refreshing tea that is a traditional drink in many countries around the world. In Mexico the tea is known as Agua de Jamaica – served cold with lots of sugar the perfect refreshing accompaniment to the spicy cuisine.
They are often combined with other herbs or fruit juices and they impart a cheery red colour and tart flavour.
Hibiscus flowers contain antioxidants and vitamin C, so the tea is known for its health benefits, including studies that suggest that it may be beneficial in reducing blood pressure.
